Spring is near, here is proof!!!!
Chers Amis, Bonjour !! Several of my "girl friends" showed up here at Au Vieux Paris on St. Valentin's Day with gifts for this occasion!! Among the gifts were two pairs of "under wear" that had sayings printed upon them, which the bi-laws concerning "decency "of the "Ecole du Bon Gout", prevent me from repeating in this e-mail!!! However, there were also dark chocolates, French cookies, and most sensationally, GLORIOUS bouquets of spring flowers offered by the more "tasteful" ladies!!!! I have really enjoyed these beautiful flowers and had great fun photographing them. I trust you will enjoy seeing some of the resulting photos!! These flowers really reminded me in a delicious way that winter is about over and spring is very near !!!
Mes Amities,
Robert

Valentine Day
Chers Amis, Bonjour and early happy Valentines Day. This holiday provides a great opportunity to "STOP" and let the special people in your life know that they are integral to your daily happiness and hold a very meaningful part in your world. These people can include a "significant other" as well as dear friends who you share your real life with. Certainly you can express these thoughts with words in a phone call or a card, but a three dimensional expression is always welcomed and also serves as a lasting daily reminder of your appreciation!!
If you are at a lost for what to give your "significant other" this year, (having already in past years given the four dozen roses, or the ten pound box of Fauchon chocolates or the case of 1929 Krug champagne,) you might consider a "one of a kind" antique treasure for your "one of a kind" "significant other"!!!!!
Find following photos of a few tasty items just to get your imagination working. Inspired custom gift wrapping is always provided here at A V P . On two occasions I have sent out Valentine gifts packed only with fresh rose petals!!! Are you inspired????

Visit au camellias, Avery's Island, La.
Chers Amis, Yesterday, I was one of a few lucky guests for lunch at Mme. Lisa Osborne's soon to be complete home at Avery's Island. Even though it was chilly, we wore our coats and ate in the sunshine on the 2nd story gallery over looking the surrounding forest with views of Vermillion Bay shimmering in the great distance.
After lunch we took a great walk around the island with the "mission" of studying the camellia collection assembled by E A. McIlhenny in the late 19th and early 20th century. We started in "Jungle Gardens" which, though truly splendid with numerous acres of hundreds of multi century live oak trees and ponds is also home to a few thousand camellia bushes.
Next we ventured into the abandoned camellia nursery of Mr. E. A., where countless rows of thousands camellias have been basically unattended for over 50 years. The camellias didn't seem to mind very much being unattended and now sharing their "rows" with native trees and giant bamboo that had volunteered amongst them and which had grown to an over story of 75 feet tall. The bushes were blooming and were in similar shape to those we saw in the Jungle Gardens.
All in all the day was a celebration of what is so really delicious about living in Louisiana and a great send off for me, as I leave for my other "French life" in Uzes on Saturday.
I trust you also have some splendid winter plans of your own to celebrate here on this ever abundant planet!! Meanwhile, please enjoy these photos of yesterday's "mission".

A note from Mme. de Pompadour!!
Chers Amis , I had been wanting to write Mme. Wayne Wrightsman for several years to thank her for her "work" collecting high style French furniture, architectural interiors and fine art. The Wrightsman Galleries at the Metropolitan Museum in NY contain the finest completely furnished 18th century French rooms in America.
Well, I finally did write her and let her know that her "work" at the high style level had had a "trickle down" effect in that it had been a great inspiration to me in my "work" which was certainly not at a "high style" level. I included photos of "the tower" and #3 Place du Duche which she seems to have much enjoyed. At 91 years of age, she is the most knowledgeable authority on French furniture , interiors, and painting, living in America and like her near double, Mme de Pompadour has owned more beautiful objects in her life time than any living person. I was very touched and extremely pleased to read her note.
