Chers Amis de L'Ecole du Bon Gout.

Bonjour!!

Yes, today, it is a "bon jour"!

In recent years and months many unwanted and stressful floods, freezes and other unhappy events seem to have befallen many of us!!

These traumas thankfully are "temporary" and  their lessons give us more appreciation for all the many more "bon jours" we mainly have to experience!!

So I say: Let us celebrate full on these "bon jours" of  birthdays, anniversaries, engagements, births, house warmings, graduations, and Valentine's Day.......!

One can choose to enhance a celebration with a glass of champagne, and here at Au Vieux  Paris Antiques, we offer a diverse selection of classic hand made champagne flutes.

Besides being totally elegant in use at celebrations, these flutes make great gifts to the friends celebrating!!

We offer free and tasty gift wrapping with every gift purchased.

(Remember Valentine's Day is February 14th svp!!)

Merci cordialement,

A rare model with a square base.

The double rings make these a pleasure to hold.

Charles X model

The "Shadows on the Teche" pattern.  This is a favorite model and happens to be SALE PRICED for Valentine's Day gifting!!

A perfect Valentine's gift would be a clutch of champagne flutes and a good bottle of champagne.

Rare square based and elaborately cut model.

Detail from "Oyster Party" by De Troy, 1734.  Note the focus of attention for some of these gents drinking the fairly new beverage called champagne is the cork that has just been propelled into the air and is now seen in front of the column.  Also they are not yet benefiting from the invention of champagne flutes, but are drinking out of regular wine glasses.

These glasses are the model seen in use for drinking champagne in the previous photo of the "Oyster Party".

Painting by Fantin Latour, 1872 now on view at the Musee' Louvre.

Chilling your flutes before pouring the champagne is an important step.  It allows the champagne to be poured without "exploding into foam" and keeps the champagne cold while it is consumed.
